Mahabharat Episode 160: As for the Kaurava army, Bhishma was appointed as the commander-in-chief as he was the oldest warrior of the Kaurava camp. Bhishma was bound to fight in favour of the Kauravas by his own pledge. So, he agreed to be the General of the Army but he set two conditions before Duryodhana. The first being that the sons of Pandu and Dhritarashtra were one and the same for him. He was bound by his own pledge to fight in Kaurava's favour. But he would never kill or harm the Pandavas.
