Mahabharat Episode 187: The setback suffered by the Pandavas on the first day of the war proved to be an eye-opener for Dhrishtadyumna and Arjuna. So they encouraged their soldiers and organised them into a typical array called Vajra-vyooha. The Kaurava army led by Bhishma attacked the Pandava army fiercely. Th Pandava soldiers ran helter-skelter out of fear. Seeing this, Arjuna asked Krishna to lead his chariot to where Bhishma was fighting. Seeing Arjuna advancing 1 towards him, Bhishma invited him with a volley of arrows. But, Arjuna nullified all the arrows of Bhishma and penetrated through the Kaurava ranks.
